- No. This is a voluntary six-month pilot program that enables residents to self-haul their organics.

- Green Haulers will have a way to help divert organic matter from the Alberni Valley Sort’nGo Centre.
- When you fill your punch card, you will receive 0.5 yards of compost from Earth, Land, and Sea.

- All data collected will be aggregated so that privacy is protected. Any information provided is voluntary and will be only used for the purposes of this project. The level of detail you choose to share is entirely up to you. From a regional solid waste management and diversion perspective, the more robust the data, the better.

If I complete my 15 drop-offs, can I purchase another punch pass?
Yes, you may purchase an additional punch pass as long as it’s still within the pilot period and you’ve completed the required survey. Please note that the additional punch pass will not qualify for another bucket or ½ yard of compost.

When does the pilot end?
The Green Haul Pilot begins on November 20. Participants can sign up and purchase a discounted drop-off punch pass until May 20. After May 20, regular rates will apply.
Can I bring my bucket and use my punch card at the West Coast Landfill?
No. This pilot program is only available in the Alberni Valley area and materials must be brought to the AV Sort’nGo Centre (Alberni Valley Landfill).
Is there a digital punch card option?
:No. Only the physical punch card provided to you can be used.
Is yard waste part of the Organics Self-Haul Pilot?
No. The pilot is limited to food waste only. Yard waste is not accepted under this program. Residents can continue to use existing yard waste disposal options provided at the AVSGC.
What happens if I forget my punch card when dropping off organics?
To participate in the self-haul organics pilot program and earn credit toward your compost reward, you must present your punch card at the time of each drop-off. If you forget your punch card, you will be charged the regular drop-off rate of $5, and the visit will not count toward your 15-drop-off goal. We recommend keeping your punch card in a convenient location to ensure you receive credit for each visit.
