What's the future for Area C?

Sproat Lake and Area OCP Update Engagement Survey #1

Share your vision for the future of Sproat Lake and Area!

The Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District (ACRD) has started the process of completing a comprehensive update of the Sproat Lake and Area Official Community Plan (OCP). An OCP establishes a community vision over a short-term (five year) and long-term (10 to 20 year) period, and it influences the neighbourhoods that you live in. An OCP is a long-term vision that guides where people will live, work, and play in the community and how they move around. The OCP provides a framework to guide land-use decisions that impact housing, climate change, environment, transportation, and managing growth within the community. It's important that the community vision in an OCP is created with, and supported by, the residents in the community.

This survey is one of many opportunities to share your input for the future of your community. It explores the same questions as the upcoming May 8 open house and workshop to ensure that those who cannot attend the event can still share their community vision. Input from this survey, and the open house and workshop, will be compiled to create the Sproat Lake and Area OCP Vision and Goals. We recognize that the survey asks many long-form questions. Please note that you do not need to answer all of the questions. Any and all input is greatly appreciated!

Other engagement opportunities include, but are not limited to, open houses, pop-up events, additional online engagement and social media, and engaging with ACRD Planning staff. More information and project updates are available here: www.letsconnectacrd.ca/sproat-lake-ocp

The survey will be open until the end of the day on June 1, 2025. Paper copies are available at the ACRD office, 3008 Fifth Avenue, Port Alberni.

The personal information collected in this survey is collected in accordance with Section 26 (c, d, e) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA) for the purposes of consideration regarding the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District Sproat Lake and Area Official Community Plan Update Project only. Direct any questions about the collection, use and disclosure of this information to foi@acrd.bc.ca.

Sproat Lake and Area OCP Plan Area

The OCP area encompasses approximately 36% (55,000 ha) of the entire Sproat Lake Electoral Area “D” and includes most of Great Central Lake. The OCP area is located within the traditional territories of the c̓išaaʔatḥ (Tseshaht First Nation) and Hupačasath First Nation, and the area has a long history of First Nations cultural heritage, including petroglyphs at the eastern end of Sproat Lake and culturally modified trees. It is also home to many provincial and regional parks and a diversity of recreational opportunities.

Some parts of the OCP area are Crown Land or privately-managed forest land, which are subject to Provincial land use legislation.
