Sproat Lake and Area OCP Survey #2

Share your vision for the future of Sproat Lake and Area!

The Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District (ACRD) is completing a comprehensive update of the Sproat Lake and Area Official Community Plan (OCP). An OCP establishes a community vision over a short-term (five year) and long-term (10 to 20 year) period, and it influences the neighbourhood in which you live. OCP policies are a set of objectives and strategies that guide decisions on planning, land use, and development to shape a community's future growth and character. These policies cover topics like housing, parks, the environment, and infrastructure. OCP policies ensure development aligns with the community's goals for sustainability and quality of life over the next 20 years.

Input from this survey will be compiled to create the Sproat Lake and Area OCP policies. Survey results may be shared with redactions where applicable. The survey asks many long-form questions. Please note that you do not need to answer all the questions. We appreciate any and all input!

Other engagement opportunities include open houses, pop-up events, our Let’s Connect project page, and social media. The OCP planning team are also always available to speak with you one-on-one if you have any questions and can be contacted by calling 250-720-2700. More information and project updates are available here: www.letsconnectacrd.ca/sproat-lake-ocp.

The survey will be open until the end of the day on November 30, 2025. Paper copies are available at the ACRD office, 3008 Fifth Avenue, Port Alberni.

The personal information collected in this survey is collected in accordance with Section 26 (c, d, e) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA) for the purposes of consideration regarding the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District Sproat Lake and Area Official Community Plan Update Project only. Direct any questions about the collection, use and disclosure of this information to foi@acrd.bc.ca.

The OCP area encompasses approximately 36% (55,000 ha) of the entire Sproat Lake Electoral Area (EA) “D” and includes most of Great Central Lake. The OCP area is located within the ḥahuułi (traditional territories) of the c̓išaaʔatḥ (Tseshaht First Nation) and Hupačasath First Nation and the area has a long history of First Nations cultural heritage, including petroglyphs at the eastern end of Sproat Lake and culturally modified trees. It is also home to many provincial and regional parks, and many recreational opportunities.

Some parts of the OCP area are Crown Land or privately managed forest land, which are subject to provincial land use legislation.
